What is Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate?

Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate is said to be Lancome’s first product of this type.  Lancome claims that this product will “boosts the activity of genes and stimulates the production of youth proteins” and promises that within 7 days your skin will not only be more youthful, but will be breathtakingly radiant, and your skin will be cushiony soft and velvety to the touch.  All of these claims sounded amazing and made me interested to learn more, so I decided to look at the ingredients and was surprised that Lancome does not have the ingredients listed on their site. After much searching I finally found what I was looking for and was disappointed in what I found. The claim I was most interested in “boosts the activity in genes” is based on in vitro studies, which means that the studies they are conducting are conducted in Petri dishes. This makes it hard to know if these studies truly cross over in vivo (within the skin) because there are so many other factors in our actual skin then there are in a Petri dish.

As I mentioned above, Lancome does not freely give out their ingredient list.  I found one list after doing some digging and was sad to see that there weren’t a lot of great ingredients in this specific formula.

• One ingredient that I noticed was Bifida Ferment Lysate which is a probiotic bacteria that is supposed to act as a DNA repairing agent and is said to “help maintain and support skin’s natural microflora.”  Studies have shown that Bifida does help to maintain microflora, but the studies that have proven this are studies that have been done on the GI tract not the skin.  
• Another ingredient is sodium hyaluronate, an ingredient capable of holding 10,000 times its weight in water, which means that this product will be able to hydrate your skin, but it also makes me wonder if the claims that are being met aren’t anything more than people having and noticing extremely hydrated skin
• Two ingredients that I was impressed with are Phystosphingosine and Hepes. These ingredients claim to help the body produce more growth proteins which will give you fresher, youthful and more radiant skin.

I really do like Lancome and think they have some great products, but I have to be honest and say that I am a bit weary on this product. It looks good on the outside but seems to lack credibility so I cannot say either way if this product can  live up to its claims.

They do say you can return products but don’t give many details on what the terms and conditions are for returns.

I don’t think this is the best product out there if you are looking  to have younger looking and healthier skin.
